Again, FG warns Nigerians of possible fresh lockdown
As many Nigerians continue to flout NCDC safety precautions, the federal government has hinted that a fresh lockdown is inevitable - The government says if Nigerians continue to fail to respect and follow all the guidelines, the easing of the lockdown will be reviewed - The director-general of the NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, had earlier lamented that people are flouting guidelines for social distancing  The federal government on Thursday, May 7 again warned of a possible fresh lockdown of the country over the violation of the guidelines on the eased lockdown. National coordinator, Presidential Task Force on COVID-19, Dr Sani Aliyu, gave the warning in Abuja during the daily briefing of the PTF. He said if Nigerians continue to fail to respect and follow all the guidelines, the PTF might review and possibly change them. Violation of social distancing directive
“While we’ve allowed the relaxation of the lockdown, we’re putting measures in place to curb COVID-19 spread. Our modelling shows that the positive effects of full compliance with the eased lockdown will be very similar to the effect of a full lockdown. “This is why we need everyone to fully comply with all the guidelines issued. Please respect and follow all the guidelines we have instituted. If we continue to see violations of these guidelines, we will be pushed to review and possibly change them.” Recall that photos and videos which surfaced on social media on Monday, May 4, after the government relaxed the initial lockdown, showed widespread disregard for safety precautions put in place by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control. Reacting earlier to the chaotic scenes in the country's commercial capital of Lagos and the seat of power - Abuja, the federal government threatened to lockdown parts of the country again should there be a spike in coronavirus cases.
The director-general of the NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, lamented that many individuals and organisations flouted the NCDC’s guideline for social distancing, infection prevention and control after the resumption of activities. Kano is the only state on total lockdown for two weeks at the moment after President Muhammadu Buhari gave the order during a national broadcast recently. On Thursday, May 7, Nigeria recorded 381 new cases of the coronavirus, the highest number of cases recorded in a single day in the country.

April 21, 2020 Press Statement COVID-19: PDP Asks FCT To Prosecute SGF, Others The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) notes the apology by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) and Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 pandemic, Boss Mustapha, on the violation of heath safety and social restriction directives by certain government officials during the funeral of the late Chief of Staff to the President, Mallam Abba Kyari. Our party understands that the apology came after widespread condemnation of the conduct of such government officials and other individuals at the funeral. The PDP describes as unfortunate that those who make and enforce rules over ordinary Nigerians were found directly violating the same rules with impunity, thereby compromising the efforts to check the spread of the pandemic in our country.  Our party holds that the SGF and other government officials including PTF members ought to have s...
